If there is oil to buy out there from other countries, we should absolutely not drill in Alaska's wildlife refuge or off the coasts.
Now that you're pissed off, let's see if you continue reading. Here's my reasoning. Its about National Security and the future of our nation. I'd rather use up their oil before we use up ours. Then when they're out, we drill ours, and don't share. Now....
Now you'll get angry again, the National parks and the shorelines those belong to the American people. Not the oil company.....so I'm fine with drilling. But the oil companies should not get that profit. The treasury should get that profit and then our taxes should be lowered or eliminated accordingly.

Why would any company, which has spent mega dollars in R&D, took all the risks, put their money into bringing a product to market not profit? Why don't you apply for a loan, bid on the leases on the land and shorelines, buy the equipment, hire the employees and take a chance of hitting oil and if you hit, bring it market. You may make enough to repay your loan, but you are not keep one dime in profit as the government should keep it all. The government could not undertake such a project, they can't manage their own affairs.

I agree with ghost that we should use up other countries' oil first. However, while we're sucking them dry, some scientific genius somewhere should be starting mass introduction to a product to replace petroleum. Not only would we have all the oil, but we'd have the alternative, too.... *sigh* in a perfect world....
I'm with Terry about profits. I don't trust the government with my money any more than I trust a public toilet seat with my genitalia.

or we could overcome our fear of nuclear power and start weaning ourselves off of oil now! I agree with nuclear power when it comes to electricity. But in cars? I don't want the average backyard mechanic tinkering with a nuclear reactor, no matter how small it is.
