I think this is a very good question. In the US, the reason the founding fathers provided for a free press is so the press could provide a check and balance for the government and advocate for the people. It really doesn't do that any longer and really hasn't for a long time.
They present stories according to their own bias, they create news through the use of polls, and they advocate for government.

Oh, so since some people think the media is already in the governments pocket, should we, as the government owners, place limits on them? Say like no interviews unless we approve.
