Did I miss the post about the National Defense Authorization Act? It appears that two bills, S.1867 and HR1540 have the potential of having American civilians arrested by the US military without due process and kept locked upped indefinitely; or until the War on Terror is over, if they happen to fall into one or more broadly defined classifications.

In the US, big difference between killing a US citizen who's a member of a Terrorist Organization in a remote area of a foriegn country where apprehension is probably impossible vs here in the US. Terrorists, Pelosi once called Republicans Terrorists.

Yes, it's been kept very quiet. It's getting a lot of discussion on other boards.

I haven't heard anything about this. Does it allow military "law enforcement" WITHIN U.S. borders?

I haven't heard anything about this. Does it allow military "law enforcement" WITHIN U.S. borders? As I see it (I haven't been able to devote my full attention to this) it feels more like a loss of Habeus corpus...indefinite detention with out legal counsel or a right to communication in military prisons....this thing pretty much forces gitmo to remain open indefinitely. Why are any of you upset? Isn't this the police state you wanted that was started with the Patriot Act?

The same Patriot Act that your President wanted extended for 4 years? He extended it by signing for the extension while in France. Bush with a paint job.

Why are any of you upset? Isn't this the police state you wanted that was started with the Patriot Act? Don't you guys get tired of continually saying "It's Bush's fault"? Of course this Bill was signed by Chancellor Palpitine.
