For Christmas, I got The Best Political Cartoons of the Year, 2009 Edition (Paperback) by by Daryl Cagle & Brian Fairrington I am really enjoying reading it. Of couse it includes cartoons about the Presidential election, but it also includes many other events, including Carter's meeting with Hamas, the murder of Benazir Bhutto, the Chinese Olympics, food prices, the Hollywood writers' strike, that business with the polygamists and their kids, and even the Spitzer scandal. Funny & even-handed. Not to mention it's a great bathroom read. Authors' credentials: - Cagle is the daily editorial cartoonist for MSNBC.com.
- Fairrington is a cartoonist who has received numerous awards:
- the Locher Award
- the Charles M. Schulz Award
- multiple Society of Professional Journalists awards
- multiple Gold Circle Awards

Sounds cute, but it brings to mind how many TV shows were political when I was growing up. Watch an old Star Trek rerun sometime.

Are you kidding?? I LOVE Star Trek. And yes, it is very political. That's part of what has made it enduring, I think.

Are you kidding?? I LOVE Star Trek. And yes, it is very political. That's part of what has made it enduring, I think. That could very well be why it lasted. But as a kid I did not notice often when it drifted into politics. Still, it does give me pause to think about how much that has affected my views on life. Even the daily cartoons had some political leanings.
