Speaking of insensitive, this is like someone asking to build a monument to Timothy McVeigh at the site of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, or a memorial to Klebold and Harris at Columbine High School Why does nobody see how inappropriate this is? It's SOP for Moslims.

Okay, well how about a memorial to the bombers of Pearl Harbor? We have that every year to commemorate August 6 1945. Dozens of Americans go and pay homage at the site which became the response to December 7, 1941.

I've decided to come down on the side of allowing our values - as they pertain to religious freedom - to demonstrate how much better a system of freedoms can accommodate peoples of all persuasions.
Even with all the pain and raw emotions remaining - especially in New York - I don't think it's consistent to think we can target EVERYONE who believes in one religion as somehow being the source of all that suffering.
Still think it's a bad idea to WANT to build it so close to Ground Zero, but I don't think you can prejudice all Muslims for such an error in judgement. Now should any information be found linking radical Islam with the financing, management or leadership of this mosque, then I reserve the right to reconsider my position.

What is considered too close to Ground Zero? 2 blocks .. 10 blocks .. 100 blocks? I think I read that there are 100 mosques on Manhatten!

I can't believe normally sensible people are rolling over and playing stupid when they even said they are opening the mosque on the 10th anniversary of Sept 11th.
How much more in-your-face can it be?

Processing this story from a biblical point of view, I disagree with the church. I don't find where the church is called to make this sort of statement. And I don't see how a pastor has the authority to burn any book representatively.
If people convert from Islam to Christianity and choose to burn their own copies of the Kuran, that would be entirely their choice.
It's okay to have doctrinal differences with Islam. I do. But I do not see that I am called to make a public statement about it.
