action.afa.net/Detail.aspx?id=2147484993Writing for the online version of the 'Times of London,' columnist Matthew Parris describes a trip he made just before Christmas to the African country of Malawi, where he had lived as a boy. Now a self-described 'confirmed atheist,' Parris was moved and inspired by the work of Christians there. It confounded him, confused him and "embarrassed my growing belief that there is no God." How? He hasn't come right out and said he's no longer an athiest, but at least it's a start...

I am genuinely moved and inspired by the time, money and even life and limb that these Christian Missionaries devote to the Third World. We have several groups of Lutheran mainline missionaries that fly out my airport regularly to the most ungodly (pun intended) shi'tholes in the world to bring medicine and teach English etc., and all at their own expense. And they have no ulterior motives, except maybe heathen conversion. Still doesn't magically make me believe in a God or gods. Joe

They would have my respect and gratitude if they did such generous things without putting a price on their "gifts". Exploiting the needs of the hungry and homeless in order to sell their message is far from charitable.

I don't know where this fallacy comes from, but it just isn't true.

In the end, if the Third World savages don't convert to Jesus-ism, they are just as condemned to hell by the christian nuts as I am because I am atheist. Joe

Most of them dont i have known a few missionariaries that were not able to go on scheduled trips because they didnt raise the necessary funds they had to reschedule months later

JoeAnd still, do you know any Christians who would refuse to help you out if you needed it simply because you're an atheist?

One for sure; she is your classic Church Lady who talks about "Satan and his helpers" all the time. I am one of his helpers in her eyes. We are nominal friends, I guess, but as to helping me, it depends on your definition of help. If I were broken down on the side of the highway she would pick me up and take me home. She also recommended someone else for a promotion over me who was frankly only fair at his job over me. Reason? He buys all the Jesus stuff.

Joe
And so you continue to condemn all Christians for the actions of one...

She is one of millions. The difference with her is that she is completely upfront with the Satan thing. A younger girl wanted to put up a few Halloween decorations this year in the breakroom: you might guess the result--- no go on the Halloween stuff because ONE person said they were "Satanic" and the boss didn't want to be bothered with an EEOC lawsuit so guess who quashed Free Speech? The one old Christian bag who vetoed what 23 other people had no problem with. So clam up the next time some "Lib-ruhl" has an issue with crosses, nativity scenes and baby jesus statues in the workplace during Christmas.

Joe I dont see a Lawsuit coming from Halloween unless she tried to put up something and the boss rebuffed her

Nice deflection, Joe.
Now...can you give us any instance of Christians withholding any type of help from someone unless that person "converts"?
